(ANSA) – BARI, 20 MAY – They allegedly treated and adulterated yellowfin tuna caught in the Atlantic Ocean with substances that are not allowed to enhance its appearance and color but making it harmful to the health of consumers and actually causing intoxication of about thirty people who had eaten it in Puglia, Tuscany and Liguria. For this reason, three entrepreneurs (father and two children) and an employee of two fish companies in Bisceglie are under investigation in various capacities for counterfeiting of food substances, fraud in the exercise of trade, sale of non-genuine food substances, distribution of harmful foods. and personal injury. The carabinieri of the Nas, anti-sophistication unit, together with ASL staff are carrying out nine search decrees ordered by the public prosecutor of Trani at the two companies involved and the homes of the suspects and in two Campania analysis laboratories, in Avellino. The latter, private and accredited laboratories, provided the necessary certifications for the marketing of the tuna.

The investigations were launched after food poisoning that affected 27 people in Puglia, Tuscany and Liguria a year ago. An entire family of Pezze di Greco di Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, had to resort to hospital treatment. (HANDLE).
