Caporalato on Uber riders: heads, degrading working conditions

(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 20 – “The conditions of the riders, who came from disadvantaged situations, were seeking asylum for political reasons and had to subscribe to these degrading working conditions, were underpaid and received from intermediary companies 3 euros net to delivery”.

Thus an investigator of the Gdf of Milan has reconstructed the working methods of the messengers who made food deliveries at home, heard as the first witness for the prosecution in the Milanese trial against the manager of Uber Italy (suspended) Gloria Bresciani accused of illegal hiring.

Proceedings born from the investigation of prosecutor Paolo Storari who on 29 May 2020 brought the Italian branch of the American giant into judicial administration, then revoked in March 2021 by the judges of the Prevention Measures Section after the recognition of the “virtuous” path undertaken by the company.

The riders, explained the investigator who conducted the investigation, “signed a card in which it was written that the amounts that appeared on the application” of the Uber Eats service for their deliveries “were incorrect”. On the app, in fact, “the flat rate reimbursements per kilometer and the bonuses applicable for climatic conditions were also displayed”, but the managers of the intermediary companies, Frc and Flash Road City, “told the riders that they would always and in any case receive three euros per delivery. “.

Through an agreement between the prosecution and defense, before the judge of the ninth criminal Mariolina Panasiti, the minutes with the stories of the messengers on the working conditions were acquired in the trial. In the debate in the next hearings only one will be heard, as requested by the CGIL, the civil party in the process as well as the Milan Chamber of Labor. (HANDLE).
