Ukraine: Urban fragments for integration

On the sunny roof of a Roman suburb an iridescent carpet reflects the harsh contours of the taller surrounding buildings and confuses them with the colors of the sky and clouds and moves them with every breath of the wind like the sea breeze does on the waves. It is the allegorical design work, “Urban fragments”, an installation site-specific built on the roof of the A.Gogò agency building. Each fragment is composed of a folded and shaped thermal blanket to lose its original function and assume the image of a tectonic plate that moves freely on the horizontal plane and is modeled in relation to the neighboring blocks.

The author seeks a geometry of integration that erases the boundaries of individual people’s homes and lives in an attempt to design an inclusive landscape. The symbolic use of thermal blankets usually used in first aid, wants to bring the viewer back to a distant dimension by recalling the images of the refugees who are welcomed. In a single glance, two so distant worlds embrace and interact in a poetic balance of lights and spaces.

Saturday 22 May, on the occasion of Open House Rome, it will be possible to visit inside the studio of A. Gogò Communication Agencythe video – photographic exhibition dedicated to the installation “Urban Fragments” made by the architect Giuseppe Vultaggio.

In this particular historical period, through this work we wanted to focus attention on the meaning of hospitality with the desire to pay homage to all those who have contributed, in any form, to helping populations in difficulty. For this reason, in exchange for a donation to the project “Emergency Ukraine” by Save The Children Italy the original photos of the photographic project of the “Frammenti Urbani” installation will be assigned.
