Mafia: popular custody for former capturandi team headquarters

(ANSA) – PALERMO, MAY 21 – The city committee Sos Ballarò, together with other associations and realities of the Albergheria, in Palermo, have taken into custody the former Duomo police station, in via Guido delle Colonne, home of the “Catturandi” team , a group of policemen who between 1990 and 2010 managed to find and arrest Mafia fugitives such as Giovanni Brusca, Bernardo Provenzano, Salvatore Lo Piccolo, Andrea Adamo and Gaspare Pulizzi, Domenico Raccuglia, Gianni Nicchi.

The state police left those spaces for over a decade and immediately afterwards the premises were occupied for residential purposes by some homeless citizens until a year ago.

Now the premises are in a state of neglect.

Five months ago, various associations operating in the Albergheria district wrote a letter to the Prefect asking for a table to be convened for a new use of the space.

The property is on land owned by the FEC, Fondi cult entities, and therefore owned by the Ministry of the Interior.

“To date – the associations say – we have not received any response and the Prefect has never made any news on the future of the property. We believe it is intolerable that what has been an important legality guard can be consumed in neglect or fall into the hands of the petty crime. We therefore want, on the occasion of the celebrations for the thirtieth anniversary of the massacres of 92, symbolically remember that the mafia feeds on the degradation and abandonment of the territories and that it can be defeated only if true and concrete answers are given that fill the neighborhoods with social infrastructures. Places of aggregation, access to rights, associations from below, are for us the best answer to remember and practice the fight against the mafia. For this reason, this space is now subject to popular custody while waiting for the institutions in charge to take it up. care and develop a social use of the structure “.

After cleaning the premises, white sheets will be hung from the windows to pay homage to the memory of Giovanni Falcone, Francesca Morvillo, Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani, Paolo Borsellino, Agostino Catalano, Vincenzo Li Muli, Walter Eddie Cosina, Emanuela Loi and Claudio Traina.
