(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, MAY 21 – The 32 of them left this morning, riding a bicycle, from Piazza Maggiore for a long journey that will take them from Bologna to the North Cape, with a message of peace and unity based on the municipalities European values. Pedaling through six states – 6,000 kilometers long to tackle the 61 stages to reach the extreme head of Europe on 21 July – next – are the members of the Bolognese amateur cycling group Ciclozenith born thirty years ago in the parish of San Bartolomeo della Beverara in the Navile district and part of the Council of the Bicycle of the Municipality of Bologna.
The group is not new to challenges of this kind and socio-cultural character experienced a little in all Italian regions and also abroad: the cyclists traveled on the saddle from Bologna to Istanbul in an ideal link between San Luca and Santa Sofia; in the earthquake areas of Umbria shortly after the earthquake to stimulate tourism recovery; on Monte Grappa and the territories of the Great War in the centenary year, up to Rome on the occasion of the jubilees and in Santiago de Compostela. Now – after some postponements due to the pandemic – the journey to the North Cape which, also following the ongoing war events, was intended to be characterized with a message of peace and in favor of European integration, touching various stages of historical and cultural interest, including the concentration camps in Mauthausen and Terezin, the monument to Jan Palach in Prague, the Frauenkirche in Dresden, the Holocaust memorial and the remains of the Berlin Wall.
The trip is sponsored by the Municipality of Bologna, the Metropolitan City, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Archbishopric of Bologna and is supported by Cibò.
