(ANSA) – MILAN, MAY 22 – The free concert in Piazza Duomo in Milan organized by Radio Italia, which celebrates its 40th anniversary, was a party with many participants: 20 thousand in the square, but also over 15 thousand outside the barriers.

The public began to arrive from 9 and the accesses to the square were blocked at 18, when there was the maximum number of people foreseen, or 19,900. However, this did not discourage many from staying close to the barriers to listen, if not exactly see, the show hosted by Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu. Fifteen thousand remained outside, so much so that yesterday the Police Headquarters made an appeal after 21 not to go to the Cathedral, while the police on the spot tried to persuade them to leave.

And in a couple of moments there was pressure on the barriers around the gates, which were opened to let in some new spectators when others left the square. Also due to the hot day, some were taken ill: 210 people were assisted by health personnel and six were taken to hospital.

For many it was a party with the opportunity to see their favorite singers live – 15 in the lineup – from the Tactical Nuclear Penguins, to Elisa, via Gianni Morandi (who also gave away songs from ‘Fatti sentare dalla mamma’ and, on request of the presenters, ‘O mia bela Madunina’) and the highly anticipated Blanco. A 14-year-old who ran away from home in Perugia and arrived in Milan also wanted to see the concert. The police found her at 10 pm in Piazza Mercanti and took her to the police station together with the 24-year-old who accompanied her.

Six other people were taken to the police station: they are Egyptians between the ages of 21 and 39; they were identified to check if they had a residence permit. (HANDLE).
