Detainee Saakashvili was offered a deal – media

Georgian journalists received information that the Georgian authorities offered a deal to the former president of the country, Mikheil Saakashvili, who was detained on October 1.

The agency “Georgia Online” reports this with reference to the statement of the editor-in-chief of the Georgian newspaper “Chronicle +” Eliso Kiladze.

According to Kiladze, the pro-government Georgian Dream party offered Saakashvili to return to Ukraine. In return, Saakashvili was guaranteed that his United National Movement party would get a good result in the elections. According to the journalist, the ex-president refused and went on a hunger strike.

“The authorities were ready to do anything to avoid keeping Saakashvili in prison“, – said Eliso Kiladze.

• Let us remind you that on the morning of October 1, Mikheil Saakashvili, the head of the Executive Committee of Reforms under the President of Ukraine, posted a video in which he said that he had already arrived in Georgia.
• In search of the former president of Georgia, in the afternoon, special-purpose units went from Zugdidi to Batumi. The local press reported on the searches in progress.
• At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Alexander Darakhvelidze denied information in the afternoon that the transfer of special units was carried out because of Saakashvili. The politicians said that Saakashvili did not cross the border of their country.
• In the evening, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the arrest of Saakashvili. According to information available in the media, he is in the Rustavi pre-trial detention center.
• “Our law enforcement officers carried out an operation to detain wanted Mikheil Saakashvili at the highest level. The law enforcement agencies had preliminary information about his transfer from Ukraine to Georgia, and this process was under full control,” Garibashvili said.

• The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry invited representatives of the Georgian Embassy in Ukraine to obtain official information on the grounds and circumstances of the detention of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili.
