The lawyer of the Georgian politician Bek Basilai assessed the arrest of Mikheil Saakashvili as an exclusively political decision.
He spoke about this live on the Ukraine 24 TV channel.
“Now he was detained. This is a political decision. We know that these are very political cases, this is not justice. For example, such an accusation: why he invited Joe Biden to dinner and asked for state funds for this. There is an accusation: why did he pardon some of the accused. there are cases against him. We sent these cases to Strasbourg, and we are waiting for a decision from the European court. This detention is a political act, “the lawyer explained.
Recall that on the morning of October 1, the head of the Executive Committee of Reforms under the President Mikheil Saakashvili posted a video in which he said that he had already arrived in Georgia. The video was of poor quality, which caused many to argue whether he really flew to Georgia, where the threat of arrest was known in advance.
