Lack of seasonal workers, Spezia involves Ukrainian refugees

(ANSA) – LA SPEZIA, MAY 26 – Seasonal work and integration of Ukrainian refugees. It is the project organized by the prefecture of La Spezia, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and trade associations. Adult refugees who apply for it will be offered the opportunity to access quarterly contracts in the field of catering and accommodation, with the sole constraint of attending an Italian language course. “The companies complain, in particular this year, of a strong lack of personnel in many sectors, especially in the tourism sector”, explains Giuseppe Menchelli, director of Confcommercio La Spezia. Three meetings to meet supply and demand, which will be held in La Spezia, Sarzana and Levanto, will be attended by companies looking for personnel: refugees will be given the opportunity to fill in a questionnaire that functions as a curriculum. “This will allow, in the future, to calibrate the offer on the skills that these people have. The project is aimed in particular at those who have a long-term perspective”, explained the prefect Maria Luisa Inversini. The literacy course is a first starting point for a possible exam to obtain citizenship. “Compared to other types of migration, Ukrainians generally have a high school education behind them and learn easily”, underlined Andrea Minghi of the Provincial Center for Adult Education. 608 Ukrainians have arrived in La Spezia and its province since the outbreak of the war, half of whom are minors.
