(ANSA) – GRAMMICHELE, MAY 27 – They were placing stones and iron pipes on the tracks in the Grammichele railway station with the risk of making the train ‘sidetrack’ from its run. They are six children, who attend the same middle school in a town in the province of Etna, who were discovered by the carabinieri who were reported for damage and an attack on transport safety at the Juvenile Court of Catania. Some of them were blocked while throwing stones at the facade of the station. Four of them are under the age of 14 and are not liable. After their identification, the Arma soldiers summoned the parents to whom they were returned to the barracks.

Investigations are underway to ascertain whether it was they who, on May 18, 2021, placed large stones, ferrous material, such as road signs uprooted from housing, and iron racks for bicycles on the tracks in the same stretch. On that occasion the ‘impact’ was avoided by the driver of the train coming from Catania to Caltagirone, who, slowing down as he approached the Grammichele railway station, had managed to promptly stop the train. The material at the time was considered “suitable to compromise the safety of transport with the ‘possible diversion of the train'”. (HANDLE).
