Bear slaughters 15 sheep in Tyrol, wolves spotted in Obereggen

(ANSA) – BOLZANO, MAY 28 – In Tyrol a bear has eaten at least 15 sheep. Another 20 animals are missing that could have fallen during the escape or in turn have been mauled. The incident took place in the Karwendel valley, north of Innsbruck, not far from the border with Bavaria, in an area that, ironically, is called Bäralpl, or the Bear’s Alp.

The breeders, who only a few days earlier had brought their flocks to the mountain pasture, brought the remaining 60 specimens back to the valley, writes the Tiroler Tageszeitung. The Tyrolean councilor Josef Geisler calls the population to attention, while the hunting guard Gregor Rimingsdorfer even advises to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, a pack of wolves has been immortalized in broad daylight in Obereggen, South Tyrol. A hiker filmed the wolves with his mobile phone as they crossed a forest road a short distance away. According to the director of the provincial hunting and fishing office, Luigi Spagnolli, interviewed by the Dolomiten newspaper, the three specimens arrived from the nearby Val di Fiemme. (HANDLE).
