(ANSA) – PERUGIA, 10 JUN – “We are very interested in reading the reasons for the sentence because we believed that there had been an abuse of power. Then it was possible to discuss whether a reason of state could justify it. But in our opinion, no reason of state can never go against the individual rights of the person.

From what emerges from the operative part of the sentence, it seems that the judges do not believe there was any irregularity “: this was stated by the Prosecutor General of Perugia Sergio Sottani, commenting with ANSA on the acquittal on appeal of all the defendants in the Shalabayeva case. The Office will assess after the reasons whether to challenge it in the Supreme Court.

A decision, that of appeal, “which is in any case in radical contrast with the first instance sentence”, emphasized Sottani again.

“Even the crimes of forgery that according to our request were prescribed – explained the Attorney General – have been declared non-existent by the Court. Therefore the motivation of the sentence, which will be filed within the ninety days set by the same Court, will be read carefully. So we cannot say now whether or not it will be challenged in the Supreme Court. We will still evaluate it with the care it deserves because it is totally in contrast with that of the first degree “.

The Attorney General had asked for the conviction of the accused, except for two positions, “considering the existence of the accusatory hypothesis as recognized in the first instance”. (HANDLE).
