In Rome a Summer camp for Ukrainian mothers and children

A summer camp to welcome and give a few days of joy and lightness to two thousand Ukrainian mothers and children who fled the war. It is the Rome Summer Camp, a real summer camp dedicated to refugees. From next Monday, June 13, until Friday, September 2, at the Villa Fassini facility in the Tiburtina area, Ukrainian families who have arrived in Rome will be able to take advantage of a completely free service dedicated to entertaining the little ones through recreational and sporting activities. . “It is a wonderful form of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people”. A people “in the heart of all Roman and Roman”, said the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, during the presentation of the project in the Campidoglio, which was attended by the president of Atlantia Giampiero Massolo, the Head of the Civil Protection Department Fabrizio Curcio, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Rome Yaroslav Melnyk, and the president of Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus Alessandro Tappa.
Speaking of the project, conceived by Atlantia, Gualtieri then added: “It is a very positive sign that companies are also doing their part, a great public-private partnership to support Ukrainians and bring some joy to these days. young people who live in a terrible situation like that of the unacceptable military aggression of Putin’s Russia “.
The “Summer Camp” was born from the initiative of Atlantia workers who, through a special program, decided to provide up to 10 days of voluntary work paid by the company, and from the partnership with various NGOs and third sector companies, such as Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus – which will deal with the operational management of the center – Caritas, Community of Sant ‘Egidio, Save The Children. The project, called “Atlantia4Ukraine”, will also take place thanks to the active collaboration of various institutions, primarily the Municipality of Rome, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Civil Protection, the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy.
The summer center will open its doors next Monday and will remain open every weekday, from 9.00 to 17.30, providing entertainment, sports and games for children aged 4 to 14. The center of Villa Fassini made available by Atlantia, in addition to having a green space of 24,000 square meters, will be equipped with a multimedia room that can be freely used. About 160 people who, every day, will be able to use the services of the camp and the center, through a weekly rotation mechanism, will be able to accommodate 2,000 people, including women and children. “We could not remain indifferent to the drama that is unfolding in Ukraine – said President Massolo -. We believe that companies must value but also play a role in solidarity. Hence the idea of ​​this summer camp for Ukrainian mothers and children “, said the head of Atlantia, explaining then:” We start with about 600 people, 250 mothers and 350 children. A good project because it is done together by companies and institutions “. This camp “is an activity in support of what is already being done with hospitality and assistance”, said Curcio, reiterating the importance of collaboration between the various institutions. A special thanks also came from the Ukrainian Ambassador to Italy, Yaroslav Melnyk: I want to say thanks “to the Italian people, the government, the Municipality of Rome and Atlantia” for the welcome that “these guys will receive during the summer”. “We are sure – he underlined – that this place will be excellent to rest and get more energy to survive this very difficult period in the history of our country”.
