The mother who fled from Ukraine to give birth in Italy, left Foligno this afternoon to return to her city of IVain-Frankivs’k. Together with her daughter Sofia and her newborn Maxim, Uliana has decided to return to her husband Igor and her family despite the ongoing conflict in her country.
“Hello, thanks Italy, thanks for everything. I love Italy“, were the moving words that Uliana gave to ANSA to express gratitude to those who helped her during these months of stay in Umbria.
If the outward journey, despite being in the sixth month of pregnancy, Uliana had faced it alone, driving for 20 hours, for the return it is accompanied by a driver: “So I can look after the baby and also Sofia, even if she is 10 years old and knows how to get by on her own”, says the mother. The car that Uliana will take back to Ukraine with her two children is also “escorted” by one of the many minibuses that leave Italy every day to bring food, clothes and other aid to the war-weary population.
“Even if the conflict scares me – said the woman – the happiness of being able to go home is too greatthe time has come for Maxim to meet his father “.
She is also very happy to return to her father Sofia who, with perfect English, explains that he missed him so much, “just as I can’t wait to hug my friends again,” says the little girl. Before leaving Foligno, there was time for Uliana and the girl to abandon themselves to hugs and emotion.
Uliana had decided to leave Ukraine – as she had told a few days ago – to have a safe place to give birth to the baby she was carrying. She had reached Umbria because of some acquaintances, so as to have immediately received hospitality. After giving birth to Maxim her, last May 14, the woman immediately started the procedures, at the Ukrainian embassy in Italy, to plan her return home. The arrival is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
