(ANSA) – PALERMO, June 13 – Over 200 people have been reported to the Palermo Prosecutor’s Office after the chaos at yesterday’s polls in the Sicilian capital, with dozens of sections closed for hours because presidents and scrutineers did not show up. The magistrates, coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Sergio Demontis, have opened an investigation to ascertain the legitimacy or otherwise of the renunciation of positions, many of which would have come within hours of the vote. The crimes hypothesized are the interruption of public service, the refusal of official acts and the violation of an electoral law of 1960. The coincidence of the vote for the municipal authorities with that for the referendum determines the need for the investigators to also understand which is the applicable standard.
The investigations were delegated to the Digos of the Police Headquarters, led by Giovanni Pampillonia, who, regardless of the reports sent by the Municipality to the Procuram, had moved, coordinated by the prosecutors, after the dozens of news of problems at the polling stations.
Under the magnifying glass of the investigators, the presidents and tellers appointed in the first instance, but also the substitutes who came into play after the resignations and who, in turn, gave up at the last minute despite having received the notification of the designation days ago. Digos will have to hear the over 200 reported and analyze any documentation they may have produced with the waiver, to ascertain its regularity. It will also be necessary to understand if some waivers have been sent in time, but have not reached the Municipality due to the problems with the computer system caused by the hacker attack of recent days (ANSA).
