Covid: CEI, ok for holy fonts but masks recommended

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 15 – New easing of Covid measures also for the Catholic Church, in line with the government’s decision. The holy water fonts, empty for two years, can be used again, and there is also a return to the processions for the offertory.

At mass the masks are not compulsory but “recommended”.

The Italian Episcopal Conference has written to all the bishops updating the provisions. “It is important to reiterate that those with flu symptoms and those subjected to isolation because they are positive for Sars-Cov-2 do not participate in the celebrations”, says the CEI in the introduction.

“Continue to observe the indication to sanitize your hands at the entrance to places of worship”, is the other suggestion as well as priests are advised to wear a mask and to sanitize their hands before distributing Communion.

In the celebration of Baptisms, Confirmations, Ordinations and the Anointing of the Sick, they can be carried out without the aid of tools.

“Individual bishops, in consideration of the various situations and the progress of the epidemic in their territory, can adopt particular measures and indications”, the Italian Bishops’ Conference specified. (HANDLE).
