It is forbidden to water orchards and gardens, wash the car and fill the swimming pools: the mayor of Tradate, in the province of Varese, has signed an ordinance to limit the waste of drinking water. fines from 25 to 500 euros for those who do not respect the rules.
In the town, due to the little rain in recent months, there was a “significant shortage of water flows” compared to previous years. The consequence – which has already occurred in some areas of the town – is the decrease in pressure in the pipes. In practice, it has happened that in homes, especially on the upper floors, only a trickle of water came out of the taps.
Hence the ordinance of the mayor Giuseppe Bascialla which prohibits from 6 to midnight until 31 August not to use the drinking water supplied by the aqueduct to wash squares and paths, to fill swimming pools, to water “lawns, gardens and vegetable gardens”, to wash cars (excluding car washes) and ask to “reduce domestic water consumption to drinking and hygienic uses only“.
