Software ‘piracy’ for architects and engineers, 14 million penalties

(ANSA) – FLORENCE, 20 JUN – Design of buildings, renovations for the 110% super bonus and energy certification elaborated with “pirate” engineering and architectural software, so the financial police denounced 18 professionals for copyright infringement Italy and imposed administrative fines of over € 14 million, equal to double the market value of illegal software. Computers with “pirated” programs have been hijacked, illegally downloaded or duplicated.

The financiers of the Special Goods and Services Unit have activated the territorial departments of the provincial commands of Milan, Rome, Naples, Florence, Ancona, Trento, Brescia, Mantua, Monza, Pavia, Verona, Modena, Lucca, Novara, Latina, Viterbo, Salerno and Brindisi, which took part in the offices of 25 companies and design studios. 70% of the companies and controlled studios were found to use irregular software in the design and technical drawing, safety, structural calculation and energy certification of buildings, and in the renovations and interventions related to the 110% super bonus.

Controls were also triggered in Tuscany and in Castelfiorentino (Florence) two professionals, owners of a design studio, were reported for violation of copyright and sanctioned with a fine of 355,000 euros. The Yellow Flames have also seized three software. This is the Tuscan balance sheet of the Underlicensing2022 operation carried out throughout Italy to combat the piracy of programs for professional use. The investigations are born from the collaboration with software companies: by crossing the data between the designs and the software managed regularly, the investigators traced back to the professional studios that used pirated programs.
