Plundered Sardinian beaches, 19 kg of sand recovered in Cagliari

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 22 JUN – The stealing of sand and other materials from Sardinian beaches by tourists continues and the control activity carried out by the personnel of the Guardia di Finanza on passengers passing through the airport continues with greater impetus of Cagliari – Elmas. In recent days, the Financiers, together with personnel from the Territorial Operational Section of Customs, have recovered thousands of “souvenirs” by seizing 536 pebbles, 2,073 shells and 19,324 kg of sand. Altogether 10 tourists were sanctioned who risk having to pay up to a maximum of 3,000 each.

In detail, 218 pebbles were found (for a total weight of 8.6 kg) 159 shells, taken from different beaches of the Gulf of Angels, inside the luggage of two German ladies, who were returning home, decided to bring with him a physical reminder of his stay on the island.

On other 4 occasions, however, a Russian, a Lithuanian and two German tourists, at the airport ready to go home, were found in possession, respectively, of 805, 538 and 480 and 180 shells, also taken from several beaches of the Cagliari coast. An Italian tourist, also departing from the Cagliari airport, had placed 48 pebbles and 8,276 kg of sand in his luggage, divided into three bottles; while 3 Spanish tourists had filled three bottles with 2,420 kg of sand taken from the coasts of Costa Rei and Villasimius and had hidden 70 shells and 270 pebbles in their luggage.
