(ANSA) – PROCIDA (NAPLES), 22 JUN – Brings the packages and suitcases, interacts with the user and is ecological. “Gita”, this is the name of the robot, officially lands in Procida, the Italian capital of culture. “It will help rethink the mobility of our cities, which will have to free themselves from the centrality of cars as soon as possible, rethinking an outdated and no longer sustainable model, if we really care about the fate of the planet”, says American designer Jeffrey Schnapp, professor at Harvard University, presenting for the first time to the Italian market the “follow-me” robot-conveyor, made by Piaggio Fast Forward. Schnapp was the protagonist of the second appointment of “Exercises on the future”, organized by Innovation Village, with the support of the United States Consulate in Naples. Already launched on the American market, the robot is able to interact in a simple and intuitive way with the user’s movements and to interpret the complexity of the pedestrian world in real time, providing for the transport of luggage, personal items and tools of all kinds. .

On Procida, his arrival was greeted with curiosity by residents and tourists, involved in the practical demonstrations of its use. “The future of our cities? Walk, as we have done for millennia. But we will do it – added Schnapp – assisted by intelligent objects, just like Gita. Perhaps inspired by the model of the city in 15 minutes, a process started for metropolises like Paris,” and with an increasingly widespread growth in micro-mobility, with an ecosystem in which the car is no longer the protagonist, but so are, for example, e-bikes and scooters, with low costs and reduced environmental impacts “.

“The theme of sustainable mobility is also central to our island”, said the mayor of Procida, Dino Ambrosino.

“The objectives of the UN 2030 agenda, primarily sustainability, guide our cultural program, which speaks to an audience of young and very young people”, underlined the director of Procida 2022, Agostino Riitano. (HANDLE).
