Two young men with a clean record of Kosovar origin, a man and a womanthey would have trained to carry out violent acts and they would have planned to carry out an attack with explosive devices in Italy, in the name of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS).
The Carabinieri del Ros, with the support of the Provincial Command of Trento, of the Special Intervention Group (Gis), on June 15, carried out a detention order of the Prosecutor, issued by the Public Prosecutor of Trento, against the two suspects.
The investigating judge of the Court of Rovereto, on June 18, ordered the arrests house arrest against the man alone.
The two were under investigation for association with the purpose of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order, recruitment and training for terrorist purposes, including international ones. Against the man, the Gip ordered the measure of pre-trial detention under house arrest, with the obligation of an electronic bracelet. In the decision on the application of the precautionary measure, the Ag. – it is explained – was determined by the need to guarantee a path of de-radicalization of the suspect, in which the family of origin, perfectly integrated into the Italian social fabric, will have a fundamental role.
From the investigative activities it emerged that the two young people, born in Italy from families of Kosovan origin, inserted in the social, work and study context, would have long since undertaken a path of radicalization made possible and effective by jihadist propaganda on the web. After committing the attack, the two were supposed to travel to Africa to join the terrorist organization.
During the operation, some searches were carried out which made it possible to seize computer equipment and chemicals – precursors for the manufacture of explosive devices – delivered to the Scientific Investigations Group for technical checks.
A press conference has been called to be held at the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Trento at 10.30 am, which will be attended by the Public Prosecutor of Trento, Sandro Raimondi, and the commander of the Ros, Gen. D. Pasquale Angelosanto.
