(ANSA) – MILAN, JUN 24 – “Thanks to the generosity of a person, who will remain unknown, I was given a further hope of life. You can imagine how great my gratitude is. The gesture of this person is a true and own act of love, carried out in total gratuitousness. In this case it is me who benefits from it. I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to all young people: ‘type yourselves’, give the possibility with your compatibility to help those who, like me, need for a bone marrow transplant. In this way you will make a priceless ‘gift’, a gift that is worth life “. This is the appeal to young people launched by the bishop of Brescia, Monsignor Pierantonio Tremolada, through the Admo (Association of bone marrow donors).

The bishop in recent days had announced that he will be absent from the Diocese of Brescia for a few months for a bone marrow transplant, scheduled for July at the San Gerardo hospital in Monza. The transplant is made possible thanks to the genetically compatible donor, which will allow the bishop to continue living.

“The search for compatibility – explains the association – takes place through typing. Being between 18 and 35 years old, weighing at least 50kg and being in good health. Only 1 in 100,000 is the ‘right type’, the main purpose of Admo is try to ‘type’ possible donors through a simple blood test or saliva sampling, which will then be entered in a database and, if compatible, recalled to join the donation “.

“Thanks to Admo who made everything possible” concluded Monsignor Tremolada in his letter-appeal.

“Let me also say, as a Bishop, that a gift like this will make the very heart of God rejoice”. (HANDLE).
