(ANSA) – SAN GIOVANNI LA PUNTA, JUN 28 – An alleged organization accused of managing drug trafficking, in particular marijuana and cocaine, in San Giovanni La Punta and in the neighboring Etna villages was defeated by the Carabinieri of the provincial command of Catania. Arma soldiers carried out a precautionary custody order, issued by the investigating judge, against 17 suspects. Among the disputed crimes, for various reasons, also the criminal association.
From the investigations of the carabinieri of the Gravina di Catania company, coordinated by the Dda Etna, it emerged that the alleged promoter and organizer of the traffic would have been an inmate of the Caltagirone prison who communicated with the outside thanks to a mobile phone illegally entered the penitentiary. According to the indictment, the association was able to collect over 10,000 euros a week from the sale of marijuana and cocaine.
The operation, called Koala, also shed light on the group’s customers. Among them, it is explained in a note from the investigators, there would have been consumers who were earners of citizenship income and who, according to the carabinieri, would also have used money from the subsidy to buy the drug. Among the suppliers of the association, the figure of a clean criminal emerged, who has a son in prison and in business with the top of the criminal organization, and who, according to the accusation, would have used the premises of the Caf of the patronage he managed in the center of Catania to make drug deliveries.
