Spillage and waste combustion, 8 precautionary measures in Gela

(ANSA) – GELA, 29 JUN – Eight people have been reached by precautionary measures for the crimes, disputed for various reasons, of illegal burning and dumping of waste, receiving stolen goods and breach of seals. The commission of public safety of Gela (Caltanissetta) in application of an order for the application of personal and real precautionary measures, issued by the investigating magistrate, carried out the measure, as delegated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In all, 14 people are under investigation: for four of them the obligation to report to the judicial police has started, three times a week with the further requirement not to leave the house at night from 21.30 to 6; for four other suspects, the precautionary measure of the preventive seizure of seven heavy vehicles was ordered, used in the state of preliminary investigations, without the required authorizations, for the transport, spillage and abandonment of waste material coming from agro-industrial activities on a private where the illegal landfill had been set up.

Six other people are being investigated on the loose. The contested conduct took place, in relation to some of the suspects, in the exercise of business activity in the waste disposal sector; for this reason, the investigating judge of the court of Gela applied the precautionary measure of the suspension of authorizations, licenses, concessions for the transport and treatment of waste in any capacity towards the company involved. In the course of the investigations it also emerged that the suspects were able to derive further important profits through the resale of ferrous material obtained from the heaps of waste set on fire, which is why the crime of receiving stolen goods is also contested against an entrepreneur operating in the territory of Niscemi. From investigations carried out in collaboration with ARPA, on the agro-industrial derivative material that was disposed of, the presence of heavy metals and asbestos in landfills emerged.
