Alpini: today Udine, tomorrow Relay end of the trip to Trieste

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 01 JUL – While today the Relay of tradition and alpine memory which started from Ventimiglia on 6 June stops in Udine – the Alpine city par excellence, home of the Julia brigade – tomorrow in Trieste it will conclude its journey after 23 stages and 1,500 kilometers. The purpose of the trip is to ideally connect the places and the history of the Alpine Corps and celebrate its 150th anniversary.

The relay of runners of the Alpine Troops of the Army and of the National Alpine Association, connected the Maritime Alps to the Julian Alps, with a parenthesis on the Abruzzo Apennines. At a running pace he touched the localities that were the headquarters of the first Alpine companies (established in 1872), formed by conscripts born on the spot and connoisseurs of the valleys they would defend. And then Cassano d’Adda, where Giuseppe Domenico Perrucchetti (author of the study that conceived mountain soldiers) was born, and Borgolavezzaro, where the Minister of War Cesare Ricotti Magnani was born, who gave impetus to the birth of black feathers.

Trieste is also a land of exceptional Alpine troops: in the Great War 134 Trieste’s Alpini were enlisted to two of whom were awarded the Gold Medal for Memory: captain Guido Corsi, and second lieutenant Fabio Filzi, sentenced to death by the Austrians with Cesare Baptists. More numerous were the Triestine Gold Medals of the Second World War, including Lieutenant Silvano Buffa, who fell on the Greek front in 1941 and the two cousins ​​Scipio Secondo Slataper, son of the writer Scipio, and Giuliano Slataper, both of whom fell during the retreat from Russia. .

There are numerous events organized for tomorrow: runners with the torch after the laying of a wreath in San Giusto will visit the “citadel”, the exhibition space for vehicles and equipment of the Alpine Army Troops, in piazza Unità. The stage will touch the ‘Molo Bersaglieri’, where the Alpine Navy Ship (open to the public) is moored, which will welcome the runners on board, who will finally participate in the final ceremony of the Relay, chaired by General CA Ignazio Gamba, commander of the Troops Alpine.
