Diesel from the Baltic countries seized by the Gdf of Varese

(ANSA) – MILAN, 04 JUL – The financiers of the Varese Provincial Command have intercepted illegal trafficking of petroleum products from the Baltic countries in total tax evasion: over 256,000 liters of diesel fuel transported in eight tank-containers.

During a check on the circulation of goods, the Yellow Flames of Busto Arsizio (Varese) identified an articulated lorry without panels that signal the danger of the transported product. It was diesel and the driver was uncertified for transportation.

It turned out that the container seized was part of a maxi shipment consisting of eight tanks, coming from European Union countries (Latvia and Lithuania), joined by rail and which were in the intermodal terminal of Busto Arsizio, without documentation or international consignment note, thus circumventing the envisaged circulation obligations, in absolute avoidance of excise duty.

The petroleum product, for over 250,000 liters and the vehicles used, were seized while two men were reported: the driver of the articulated vehicle and the “relay”, two Italians of Campania origin. The estimated excise duty subtracted from taxation amounts to over 94,000 euros.

The fuel had non-standard physical and chemical characteristics and could have been hazardous to public health. (HANDLE).
