(ANSA) – ANCONA, 05 JUL – “First confirmed case of Monkeypox in the Marche region”. The news is the virologist Stefano Menzo. The confirmation was made yesterday at the Virology Laboratory of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, where the molecular analysis was performed on the “liquid of the vesicles in an ulcerative state” of the person infected with Monkeypox, the so-called Monkeypox. “It is an Italian man” explains Menzo, director of the facility. According to local media, he is a 42-year-old, whose condition does not cause concern, but who has no history of recent travel to endemic countries and who was not vaccinated against smallpox. During an outpatient visit to Area Vasta 5, suspicious skin lesions and swollen lymph nodes were noted. The sample arrived from the Infectious Diseases department of the Ascoli Piceno hospital yesterday.

This is the first confirmed case in the Marche after a dozen suspected cases, “most of which are pediatric, but none have been confirmed” concludes Menzo. (HANDLE).
