(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 08 – In 2021 there are just over 7 million young people aged 18-34 living at home with their parents (67.6%), compared to 2019, before the pandemic, there is was an increase of 3.3 points. Istat indicates this in the 2022 Annual Report, underlining that this is a figure well above the EU average of one in 2 young people.
67.6% is 9 points higher than the low recorded in 2010, before the Great Recession caused the share of those who remain in the family to rise again.
In the South the situation for young people in the family is more critical. In this area of the country there are relatively more those who live with their parents (72.8% against 63.7% in the North and 67% in the Center) and there is a high incidence of young people in the family who declare themselves unemployed (35%), double compared to the North (17%).
