Violence women: DiRe, victims increased by 3.5% in 2021

Government, Ciriani:

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 13 – A total of 20,711 women were welcomed in the anti-violence centers of the DiRe network in 2021, an increase of 3.5% compared to 2020. Almost half (46%) of the women received are aged between between 30 and 49 years. They are mainly Italian (only 26% have a different origin), a constant figure in recent years.

The perpetrator of the violence is predominantly Italian (only 27% are of foreign origin) and this figure has now been consolidated over the years. This is what emerges from the latest report of the National Association DiRe – Women on the Net against violence on the data referring to 2021.

In comparison with 2020, an increase emerges for the career guidance service, which goes from 88% to 94% of the centers. This data is particularly significant – it is pointed out – if we consider that one in three women (31.9% of unemployed, housewives and students) has zero income, in line with 2020 (32.9%) and 2019 ( 33.8%). Only 37% (between employed and retired) can count on a secure income.

Only 28% of the women accepted decide to report, a percentage that remains substantially constant over the years.

The activity of the centers is largely supported by the voluntary work of the activists, of which only 33.3% is paid, also due to the scarcity and non-structural nature of the funds. “3.5% more contacts than in 2020, 8.8% more women who had never called the anti-violence center, are numbers that confirm the importance of the centers of our Network”, commented Antonella Veltri, president of DiRe – Women on the Net against violence.

According to Veltri, ‘it is not enough to approve an anti-violence plan if the implementation guidelines are lacking: we are awaiting this, the concrete commitment of the government on the issue of male violence against women, for 2021-2023’. (HANDLE).
