Murder Attanasio: bandits, we didn’t know they were diplomats

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 14 – The group of bandits who tried to kidnap and then killed, in February of last year in Congo, the ambassador Luca Attanasio and the carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci, did not know they had targeted a convoy diplomatic. This is what the five arrested in recent months by local authorities on murder charges also reported to the Italian investigators. In summary, the bandits wanted to carry out, as has already emerged in recent months, a kidnapping for the purpose of robbery, targeting “white” victims to obtain a booty of 50 thousand euros. Corriere della Sera writes it today.

The five Congolese citizens were questioned, in the presence of a lawyer, by the carabinieri of the Ros who yesterday completed the seven-day mission ordered by the Rome prosecutor’s office. According to what was reconstructed by the Congo authorities, the command was made up of a total of seven people and the leader Amos Mutaka Kiduhaye is currently wanted.

During the mission, a copy of the investigative documents collected by the Congolese judiciary was delivered to the Italian investigators, and in particular about 40 videos relating to the conduct of the arrested and the inspections carried out by the same with the magistrates of Kinshasa, acts that will soon form the basis for the final assessments of the prosecution office in Congo. Rocco Leone, deputy director of WFP, the UN food program and his collaborator Mansour Rwagaza are currently being investigated in the investigation in Rome. The accusation against them is of manslaughter for not having respected the security protocols in the preparation of Attanasio’s mission. (HANDLE).
