This was revealed by the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Genova – San Martino who, after a series of checks, reported in a state of freedom 60 people, Italian and foreign, residing in Genoa and the province, for undue perception of the Citizenship Income and aggravated fraud to obtain of public funds. The investigations, developed through the intersection of data from the databases used by the police forces, observation, shadowing and monitoring of social profiles, made it possible to ascertain numerous irregularities. In particular, the most recurrent “elusive methods” have emerged: fictitious residences, modified family composition, failure to communicate the subjecting to a precautionary measure, the omission of income received and the false attestation of having resided in the Italian territory.

Furthermore, from the monitoring of the internet and social networks, it was possible to identify the public profile of one of the suspects, a 40-year-old woman, residing in an apartment in the well-known Genoese district of Albaro and beneficiary of a monthly subsidy of 500 euros, whose high standard of living – evidenced by the availability of designer bags and clothes, luxury cars as well as the frequentation of Genoese nightlife venues, expensive restaurants and yachts – was absolutely incompatible with the use of the welfare measure in support of the poorest segments of the population . They were all reported to INPS for the immediate revocation of the benefit, with retroactive effect, and the necessary procedures for restitution of what was illegally received, which is estimated to be around 350,000 euros in total, have been initiated.
