L’Aquila earthquake: laying the foundation stone for the Gignano school complex

(ANSA) – L’AQUILA, 20 JUL – The symbolic laying of the first stone, bearing the Eagle logo and the Sign of Rebirth, officially marks the beginning of the reconstruction works of the Gignano, Torretta and Sant’Elia school complex, located in via Manieri in the hamlet of Gignano. A modern building designed to accommodate a two-section primary school, a three-section kindergarten and a gymnasium, for a total of 400 children. The amount of the intervention is 4.1 million euros and the delivery of the plexus is set for January 2024.

The main access to the structure, equipped with a parking area of ​​over one thousand square meters, will be guaranteed by the newly built road section on via Manieri designed to preserve the urban quality of the neighborhood.

The courtyard represents the most representative public space of the school complex surrounded by greenery: its dimensions guarantee the possibility of hosting events open to the neighborhood community and the city. For the project, which won an international competition, the municipal administration had to arrange a new call for tenders after the previous company was revoked due to breach of contract.

“An intervention much awaited by the community and which will guarantee our children a functional, safe and welcoming place that marks a further step in the strategy adopted by this administration in school construction, which has seen us planning interventions for over 30 million euros. able to return other buildings intended for the formation of the future of this city, such as the school in the hamlet of Bagno, and deliver the works for the Santa Barbara school complex. We are doing a lot but the dialogue with the Ministry of Education to overcome some critical issues, which also remain, are constant “.

In this regard, the mayor recalled the confrontation he had last Monday with Luigi Fiorentino, head of the cabinet of the Minister of Education Patrizio Bianchi to identify “a solution for the five Aquila school buildings that still await resources and certainties”. (HANDLE).
