(ANSA) – LECCE, 21 JUL – The agents of the Digos of Lecce have executed an order for the custody of house arrest ordered by the investigating judge of Lecce at the request of the Dda of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, against a 49-year-old Albanian resident in Galatina, for the crime of instigation to commit a crime and apology, aggravated by the purpose of terrorism and by the use of IT tools.
The investigation activity, coordinated by the Service for the Fight against Extremism and External Terrorism of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police, began in 2018 following a report from the intelligence sector and would have made it possible to reconstruct the path of radicalization undertaken from the prisoner who, over the years, would have matured – according to the accusation – a profound adherence to Islamic extremist ideologies, denoting a radical change in the way of life.
The technical activities – the investigators explain – would have revealed, among other things, how the Albanian had matured a profound aversion to Italian laws and the Western lifestyle and that he would have been committed to spreading numerous jihadist propaganda contents on the web , including photos that portrayed him with the ISIS banner, and at the same time he would have maintained relations with relevant elements of international terrorism already emerged in sector investigations conducted abroad.
During the operation, which also led to the execution of a similar precautionary measure against a 29-year-old Italian, unrelated to the circles of Islamic radicalism, for illegal possession of firearms and drug offenses, computer material was seized on which further investigative investigations will be carried out.
The investigative elements collected in relation to the hypothesized crimes allowed the Public Prosecutor’s Office to make a request for a precautionary measure against the two that the investigating judge accepted by issuing a dispositive order of house arrest with electronic bracelet, arranging, medio-tempore (pending the availability of the device) the extent of pre-trial detention in prison.
