(ANSA) – ALEXANDRIA, JUL 22 – The network of rivers and streams of the Alessandria area is not exempt from the severe state of suffering of the Po river, anticipating a dramatic dry. The last significant event – as recalled in a note from the Province – dates back to 2017, but not in conditions and proportions like the current ones. Hot sand and gravel, temperatures around 40 degrees dominate the riverbeds, which have yielded their superficial flow to a minimal sub-riverbed activity, with rare poorly oxygenated, overheated, eutrophic pools. Therefore, fish fauna recovery interventions were implemented to cope with an emergency situation of vast proportions and long duration, also based on voluntary work.
For weeks, the services of the Environment, Water Resources and Fish Management Department have been monitoring the sections at risk and checks are underway on the regularity of withdrawals for irrigation purposes. A similar procedure is followed by park authorities and forest police. The staff for the Wildlife Watch, in small numbers, are in fact required by the Region for the African swine fever emergency. Reports by private individuals of pools with fish in difficulty must be targeted and punctual in order to identify the place, facilitate priority, optimization and effectiveness of interventions, including a safe and lasting relocation over time. From the latest updates, the dry situation of the Orba and Scrivia torrents in the stretches of the valley is dramatic; less compromised but still serious that of the Borbera. (HANDLE).
