(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 22 JUL – The work to extinguish the fires that are devastating some areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia on the border with Slovenia continued throughout today, where, in the last hours, the situation has returned worrying.

Returning to the Italian side, today the deputy governor with responsibility for the Civil Protection of the Fvg – due to the unfavorable climate situation in progress – Riccardo Riccardi signed a decree for a further commitment of expenditure equal to 838 thousand euros to be paid by the Regional Fund for civil protection .

As explained by the representative of the Giunta, the atmospheric conditions will continue to be particularly favorable to the triggering of new fires also for the next few days, with temperatures that will reach 40 ° C. This condition will determine the need to increase the number of interventions to deal with the outbreaks. Hence the need to strengthen the presence of air vehicles with the help of the Autonomous Province of Trento with a helicopter made available to the Region.

Furthermore, the urgent need to proceed with the safety of the slopes placed upstream of the roads to mitigate the risk of falling rocks was noted. At the same time, alternative routes must be created to connect with the inhabited areas isolated from the fires, as well as to provide for the cutting of unstable vegetation that could fall on the roadways.

With today’s funds, the costs relating to the air competition of the Autonomous Province of Trento are covered, thanks to which, until the end of the state of emergency (31 August), the regional system will be able to count on five helicopters to deal with fires and to guarantee safety. of the population.
