(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 24 JUL – “It was the longest night, one of the most difficult since the fires that are devastating the Karst” even if there is a “clear improvement in the situation”. The families, after a specific ordinance was issued, returned to their homes but “the resumption of fire is always around the corner”.

The mayor of Gorizia Rodolfo Ziberna writes this in the daily monitoring note on fires in Fvg.

According to the Civil Protection of Gorizia “on the Italian front the situation remains under control with the reclamation and control of the last remaining outbreaks”.

The situation has also improved in Slovenia thanks to the Gasilci (firefighters) who managed to contain the advance of the flames. Since this morning, two Italian Canadair have also been involved in support. Now drones with temperature detectors fly over the area with helicopter interventions in the marked areas.

Air quality has also improved and in particular Gorizia was affected only for short moments of the day by smoke and short PM10 peaks above the threshold.

Therefore, no ordinance, in agreement with the Prefecture, the Fire Brigade and the Harp, but only the recommendation to close doors and windows in case of new outbreaks and consequent smoke, not to go out if not necessary and to wear Ffp2 masks if you go out, wash the large-leaved vegetables well.
