(ANSA) – TERMOLI, 26 JUL – A Milanese tourist on holiday in Termoli, Maurizio Trevisan, with his ‘lifeguard’ dog Axel, saved an elderly person from drowning who fell into the water from a mattress: the incident happened in sea this morning in front of the Torretta beach.

Trevisan with the animal trained for rescues at sea, an Alaskan malamute, accidentally saw the holidaymaker fall from the inflatable into the sea, 200 meters from the shore, in a point difficult to identify from the shoreline and intervened. The Milanese, enrolled in the ‘Sailor dog’ school in Milan which deals with the training of dogs in nautical rescue, was 100 meters from the elderly man who, very frightened, tried to stay afloat, calling for help. In the face of the emergency, Trevisan did not hesitate for a moment and with the dog he put into practice the lessons acquired, managing to reach the holidaymaker, reassure him and rescue him thanks to the support of Axel. In the meantime, the beach attendant also intervened.

“It was a real thrill – Trevisan told ANSA -.

As soon as I verified the dangerous situation, calm of the teachings received in many simulations in the sports association, I intervened. It was a real thrill to see how my dog Axel immediately reacted to the command, following me towards the vacationer in difficulty and accompanying me towards him. Seeing the old man clinging to Axel as a lifeline and having done something useful after years of practice, testing and simulation was incredible.

A great satisfaction. The dog has done its duty to the greatest extent. We accompanied the holidaymaker on the skate with the beach attendant who led him ashore “.

“The ‘Sailor dog’ association deals with the training of dogs and the training of animal owners in nautical rescue – explains Edoardo Meridiani of Sailor Dog -. It has been active for six years in Lombardy, but we do exercises all over Italy. Today, what we learned during the training has been put into practice and everything went well. On our part, we are satisfied with the rescue of a person in distress at sea “. (HANDLE).
