Murder and criminal association aimed at drug trafficking: these are the crimes investigated by the carabinieri of the Ros of Rome and those of Salerno who are carrying out a search decree against nine suspects for various reasons involved in the killing of Angelo Vassallo, the first citizen of Pollica, in the Salerno area. The “fisher mayor” who had not bowed to the Camorra. The investigative hypothesis is that Vassallo was killed because he wanted to reveal a drug trafficking that gravitated around the tourist port of Acciaroli of which he had come to know. Angelo Vassallo was shot dead on the night of 5 September 2010, in Acciaroli, a hamlet of Pollica, while he was returning home in his car. The new investigations, explains the public prosecutor of Salerno Giuseppe Borrelli, also concern “the development and the real purposes” of a series of investigative activities implemented immediately after the crime, and without delegation from the competent Salerno Public Prosecutor, “which they had the effect of directing investigations towards subjects who were then completely unrelated to the murder “. On the other hand, adds Borrelli, the search decree is based on “a part of the elements gathered in more than a decade of investigative activities carried out by the Salerno prosecutor since the day after the crime. fruitful investigative link with the Naples Anti-Mafia District Directorate “. A connection that allowed the results of technical activities carried out by the Neapolitan DDA to be used in other investigations. The Public Prosecutor of Salerno specifies that the latest investigative hypotheses are “susceptible of further verification during the proceedings, also in light of the overall probative acquisitions, still covered by investigative secrecy”.

There are three carabinieri (in service or former), four entrepreneurs and two members of a Camorra clan among the nine under investigation for various reasons in the investigation for the murder of the mayor of Pollica (Salerno), Angelo Vassallo.
This is what can be seen from the search decree issued by the Dda of Salerno. The provision concerns the lieutenant colonel Fabio Cagnazzo, the former brigadier Lazzaro Cioffi, the carabiniere Luigi Molaro, the entrepreneur Giuseppe Cipriano (owner of a cinema in Scafati), the brothers Domenico, Giovanni and Federico Palladino who manage an accommodation facility; Romolo and Salvatore Ridosso, considered members of the scafatese Camorra clan of Loreto-Ridosso. Cagnazzo, Molaro, Cioffi, Cipriano and the three Palladinos are under investigation for drugs. The murder charge, on the other hand, was hypothesized against the three carabinieri, Cipriano and the two Ridosso.

Nine suspects murder ‘fisherman mayor’, searches

Search of the former carabiniere Lazzaro Cioffi, who is among the nine investigated by the Salerno prosecutor’s office for the murder of the mayor of Pollica, Angelo Vassallo: in the house in Calabria where Cioffi is serving house arrest this morning the carabinieri seized his cell phone and the computer of the former non-commissioned officer, recently sentenced to 15 years for external involvement in international drug trafficking and other crimes. Cioffi, who was already under investigation for the crime of the “fisherman mayor”, was subjected to interrogation in 2018 but, assisted by the lawyer Saverio Campana, made use of the right not to answer.
