Mafia: Cassation denies compensation to Nunzia Graviano

Elections, Calenda:

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 29 – The request of Nunzia Graviano, the 54-year-old sister of the mafia bosses Giuseppe and Filippo – both life imprisonment – was rejected by the Cassation, who following the final acquittal obtained on April 30, 2018 with the formula “for not having committed the deed”, she wanted to be compensated for having spent three years, four months and 15 days in prison, from November 29, 2011 to April 13, 2015, on charges of effectively managing the brothers’ assets inmates. In the opinion of the Court of Appeal of Palermo, as judge of reparation, as emerges from the order of 25 May 2021 shared by the ‘ermellini’ – in the verdict 30054 filed today -, there had been “multiple and persistent” relations between Graviano and members of the Brancaccio’s mafia clan, men like Cesare Lupo, Giuseppe Arduino and Giuseppe Faraone, who went as far as Rome, where the woman ran a bar in Via Tripolitania, to meet her. Even briefly, for about twenty minutes, including Christmas Eve on December 24, 2010. According to the statements of some repentants, in those circumstances the boss’s sister was given the money for the rents of property belonging to the Graviano brothers. For the Supreme Court, this comings and goings from Palermo to Rome, even if it did not lead to a conviction, “leaves no doubt about the reproach” against Nunzia Graviano of “conduct such as to fully legitimize the restrictive measure”, a behavior of “dangerous connivance”.
