(ANSA) – SALERNO, 02 AUG – A thirty year old was injured this morning on the “Spiaggia dei Francesi”, in the municipality of Camerota (Salerno), following the fall of a boulder from a rocky ridge. The incident occurred around 1 pm. The alarm was raised by a bather who, realizing what had happened, alerted the operations room of the Maritime District Office of Palinuro through the blue number 1530. The Coast Guard ordered the dispatch of the SAR patrol boat class 800 and the pneumatic boat supplied to the Local Maritime Office of Marina di Camerota, essential in consideration of the shallow waters present. 118 was also alerted to embark the injured on an additional rubber dinghy made available by the local Civil Protection.

The 30-year-old, who was in the company of his daughter, was safely transferred to emergency vehicles. From the first information gathered and from the surveys carried out by the Harbor Master’s Office, it would seem that the young man was hit by a boulder detached from the ridge while he was inside the restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the beach. Transported to the hospital in Vallo della Lucania, he is now undergoing investigations: according to the first reports he may have only reported some rib fractures. Pending the adoption of the formal measures that will become necessary, the Maritime District Office of Palinuro has arranged as a precaution for the safety of the numerous bathers present on the beach at the nearby port of Scario, also thanks to the support of the local cooperatives that dealing with passenger transport during the summer.
