(ANSA) – REGGIO CALABRIA, 04 AUG – The order of custody in prison issued as part of the “Breakfast” investigation, conducted by the Reggio Calabria DDA, against the former Forza Italia parliamentarian Amedeo Matacena has been revoked , definitively convicted for external complicity in mafia association. The revocation was ordered by the district magistrate of Reggio Calabria, Vincenza Bellini, with the contrary opinion of the Dda. The investigating judge accepted the request presented by the defenders of Matacena, Marco Tullio Martino and Renato Vigna. The judge also ordered the release of the assets of Matacena, who has been a refugee in Dubai, in the Arab Emirates for years.
The release from seizure of the assets of Matacena was motivated by the investigating judge by the long time that has elapsed since the date of commission of the crimes alleged by the former parliamentarian and by the exclusion, in the precautionary phase, of the alleged aggravating mafia. As part of the same “Breakfast” trial, former Interior Minister Claudio Scajola and Matacena’s ex wife, Chiara Rizzo, were arrested and sentenced in the first degree. Judge Bellini also considered confirmed the “circumstantial judgment” against Matacena, who, in the arrest order against him, was accused of fictitious registration of assets, with the aggravating mafia.
In a note, the lawyer Martino affirms that also the Attorney General of the Court of Cassation, in relation to a previous appeal, had requested the annulment of the precautionary custody order against Matacena as part of the “Breakfast” investigation. .
