(ANSA) – TURIN, 05 AUG – Dead sirens at the source of the Po. This is the protest staged today at Pian del Re, in the territory of Crissolo (Cuneo), by a group of Extinction Rebellion activists, who wore the robes of mythological creature and they lay down around the source of the river.
“The goal – explained the promoters of the initiative – is to draw attention to the very serious drought that the whole of Italy is experiencing and, more generally, to the tangible consequences that the climate crisis is causing also in the Piedmont territories”.
The sirens had already appeared last February on the shallows of the Po near the Murazzi of Turin. “After months – recalls Extinction Rebellion – the water deficit has further worsened so as to call for a state of national alert. The small Turin shoal that activists already denounced in February today has expanded considerably and is now invaded by algae, which they are proliferating out of control throughout the city stretch of the river “.
The environmental organization urges “the regional government of Piedmont to act in a structural way to counter the effects of the climate and ecological crisis”. (HANDLE).
