Val Ferret landslide, road still interrupted

(ANSA) – AOSTA, AUGUST 06 – From this morning operations are underway to be able to take away by helicopter the over 60 people who have been blocked since last night in Val Ferret, above Courmayeur, due to a landslide that interrupted the road .

After the helicopter overflight of the area, which took place at dawn, the civil protection technicians also started work to clear the road of mud and debris.

The large landslide broke off last night after a strong storm, and dragged rocky material and mud down the valley along the bed of the Rochefort stream. The flow completely blocked the road, now declared unfit for use, which rises from La Palud, in the locality of Meyen. The firefighters and the guides of the Valle d’Aosta mountain rescue had to intervene last night to rescue four people who were stuck in the car among the mud and debris flow.

The landslide has seriously damaged the town’s aqueduct and the hamlets of La Palud, Villair and Entrèves are still without water.

The municipal administration asks all citizens to rationalize their water. (HANDLE).
