(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 09 AUG – A fire broke out last night in a forest near Prebenico (Trieste), close to the border with Slovenia, for reasons not yet ascertained. The flames were extinguished this morning after many hours of work, by the fire brigade, assisted by Slovenian colleagues and volunteers. As soon as it was possible, a civil protection helicopter also took off.
In the meantime, the firefighters are continuing to reclaim the fire that broke out last Saturday which created severe inconvenience and damage on the Karst in Duino. The Brigades, even with the use of drones, are monitoring the whole territory to verify that there are no other small outbreaks that could fuel a fire again. There are dozens of points where incandescent twigs or ash still active have been identified, which could have caused new problems.
