(ANSA) – ASCOLI PICENO, AUGUST 10 – The eight cell phones that the prison police intercepted last Monday in the Ascoli Piceno prison were intended for a “high security” prisoner. The ‘recipient’ of the mobile phones, a prisoner of Sicilian origins, however, declared that he did not know the sender. The news was announced today by the regional secretary of Uilpa Marche Leonardo Rago. The intuition of the agent on duty to check parcels was decisive. During the usual check on incoming parcels, he was made suspicious by one destined for an inmate.
“After a more accurate check and certainly thanks to the experience and insight of the colleague, eight cell phones were found inside the package, naturally well hidden, accompanied by relative sims and even provided with the latch to insert them, therefore ready to be used” explains Rago, underlining that “the great intuition and evident competence bring to the fore the undisputed role of the Penitentiary Police which, even in the face of staff shortages and exhausting shifts, is always the cornerstone that monitors and guarantees safety within the penitentiary institutes “. “To them – concludes the regional secretary Uilpa Marche – goes the applause of the regional secretariat and of the Uil which will act as spokesperson at the administration for the activation of procedures aimed at obtaining formal recognition for the protagonist of this brilliant operation” .
