(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, AUGUST 10 – Even the petrol station speaks in Sardinian. Just approach the column for payment and the choice of the quantity of fuel: the voice is clear, decisive. But the words are not in Italian: “Poni knows banknote. Or le carte”.
The accent is Cagliari. In fact, the distributor, Eni group, is in via Bacaredda, located in Cagliari, right on the road that bears the name of a historic mayor of the capital.
It continues like this: “Deppis type the code on the keyboard. And press the green key po cunfirmai”. Intuitively, these are words that even a client or tourist from the peninsula can understand. But the display is very clear in the instructions: if the words are not understood, the images still guide those who want to put gasoline or diesel.
This is not the only case in Sardinia. In other distributors in the north of the island, again under the Eni brand, the guiding voice for the self-service column this time speaks in Sassari: “Poni lu codizzi” (“enter the code”). The novelty is part of a company plan that involves over 100 provinces throughout Italy where instructions in minority languages or dialects have been activated. (HANDLE).
