Caretta Caretta in jute-plastic bag, saved by Forestale

Elections, Melons:

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, AUGUST 10 – A Milanese tourist who swam near the beach of Barisoni in Tertenia (Ogliastra), came across a specimen of Caretta caretta turtle that was completely entangled with a bag of jute and plastic.

Perhaps he had mistaken it for food since there was also some fiber in the beak.

The tourist managed to catch the turtle and immediately called the agents of the Arbatax Forestry Corps Naval Base. Meanwhile, he also tried to free the animal from the deadly tangle that had already caused some injuries to the limbs and neck. Once on site, the Foresters immediately took it over and transported it to Oristano to deliver it to the operators of the CreS del Sinis recovery center.

“The civic sense of a citizen saved the life of the little Tarturo, so baptized on the occasion of this fortuitous meeting – explains the Forestale -. Unfortunately the presence in the sea of waste, such as bags, plastic bags, abandoned lines, are a great danger for the survival of this species. The Forestry Corps sensitizes the population, residents and tourists, inviting them not to abandon plastic materials of all kinds in coastal state-owned areas “.

The young specimen, about five years old and 25 cm long, is now in the veterinary clinic for treatment and, thanks to the timely rescue, it will soon be able to be released and continue its travels in the Mediterranean. (HANDLE).
