A new fire broke out this morning around 6.30 in the Duino area (Trieste) forcing Autovie Venete to close the motorway exit towards Trieste.
The closure was necessary to allow the firefighters, Civil Protection and Forestry Corps to extinguish the flames and to ensure the safety of vehicles in transit.
The fire, at the moment, does not threaten the motorway axis. A helicopter is also operating. A portion of the state road 14 is also closed.
It is the fifth major fire that has affected the Karst area over the past three weeks.
“For the moment, the situation is under control: the fire does not threaten homes and not even the large supermarket nearby: the timely intervention of rescue was fundamental”, the deputy mayor of Duino Aurisina told ANSA ( Trieste) Mitja Petelin, who has been on the spot since dawn. “Very conveniently, a large tank had been left by the fire 4 days ago – he added – and the Fvg Civil Protection helicopter is constantly shuttling to throw water on the flames. Certain paths have also appeared that have the specific function of cut the fire “.
