(ANSA) – REGGIO CALABRIA, 12 AUGUST – A comparison on the initiatives underway to ensure non-EU workers present in the Piana di Gioia Tauro in possession of a regular employment contract adequate housing solutions in order to overcome the current precarious and degraded condition . This is what took place during a meeting called by the prefect of Reggio Calabria, Massimo Mariani.

The meeting was attended by the councilor for social policies of the Calabria Region, Tilde Minasi, together with the representatives of Cgil, Cisl and Uil and of the basic union; to the mayor of Gioia Tauro, Aldo Alessio, and to the representatives of the other municipalities interested in the problem.

In particular, the developments of the interventions planned to ensure non-EU workers, with a regular employment contract, adequate housing solutions were illustrated. Prefect Mariani stressed that “it will not be just ‘villages’ and that a ‘Service Center’ is planned to allow workers to interface with the offices for immigration and municipal practices”.

The commissioner Minasi referred to the resolution approved by the regional council, “with the fundamental support – he said – of the Governor Roberto Occhiuto”, with whom 10 million euros were allocated to finance the redevelopment of the former industrial complex “Eranova “of Gioia Tauro and the creation of an eco-sustainable” village “that can host seasonal workers.

“The executive project, currently being defined – said the commissioner – provides for the insertion of housing modules equipped with autonomous photovoltaic and thermal systems, which will be flanked by other structures intended to host common spaces and services, as well as offices of the State Police and municipal “.
