(ANSA) – STROMBOLI, AUGUST 13 – After a night of work, the operations of the firefighters continue in Stromboli after the heavy rains that hit the island: 80 interventions carried out so far, teams in action with five excavators arrived from the Palermo, Enna and Messina to clear the streets of mud.
The fire that started during the filming of the fiction “Civil Protection” last May exposed the mountainous side of the island, destroying vegetation and fauna. Yesterday after a storm thousands of tons of mud, debris and boulders descended into the valley, rivers of water in flood formed. Flooded houses, broken streets, motorcycles, cars, the Piaggio Ape, all submerged in mud.
Yesterday evening the mayor of Lipari Riccardo Gullo said that “the situation is normalizing. There are no problems for tourists in the hotels. The volunteers who have flocked to the island are sufficient”. (HANDLE).
